In 1994, Beacon's founders had a vision to create a singularly unique and exceptional software and services company focused on health insurance to improvehealth claims management. By leveraging their respective backgrounds, experience and stewardship, and by finding and developing dedicated employees with similar industry experience–Beacon established a values-based company focused on improving the performance of their clients, while providing an exceptional work environment for their employees.

When the original HIPAA Specifications came out in 1996, we knew they were going to change the industry substantially. When the Administrative Simplication finalized regulations came out in 1998, we know it was time to begin. Although the web was young in those days, we decided to bet the farm on it. Using the HIPAA specifications from day one, we architected our Beacon Claims SpyGlass Enterprise Suite, and HIPAA Director directly on the required HIPAA code sets, and the new HIPAA requried transactions (837's, 835's, etc).

Let's face it, the clean slate we started with was a luxury. We were able to optimize everything for the way the business was going to work, not the way it had worked in the 60's. The modern platforms and tools we started with were another leverage point. We were able to leave the legacy programming languages behind and build on Java. Our depth in the industry was another big plus, and the operational insigts we gained from real work in the "trenches" has paid off. You'll see that in the way the system operates.
